Regardless of the type of website, content creation is vital to driving traffic, interest, and buzz to it. And creating high quality content over a period can be challenging. Sometimes it is due to mental exhaustion, lack of creativity/imagination, or lack of inspiration.
Every day a multitude of content is being created. Differentiating yourself from others with your content can be challenging at best. Content must be informative, current, captivating and engaging at the same time. Reaching your target audience is the goal.
So, how do you break through the noise or avalanche of content to connect with your target audience? Group an audience based on demographics or psycho graphics to improve chances of targeting them. A connection will be made between your brand and the customer, leading to a better understanding of their preferences.
To get a better understanding of audience, ask the following questions:
- Which posts are read most frequently? What makes them similar?
- What posts are read least often?
The above questions will certainly give you insight into what your audience likes. For example, young adults gravitate towards posts about sneakers – something like that. Or let’s say your audience likes a post about the R1 Rivian. That is a cue to repost or engage with them about the content.
Of course, some content will falter or fall flat with your audience. This is an opportunity to learn and improve upon the video, tweet, poster, popup, whatever you shared with a segment of your audience.
Focusing on content that provides value to your audience is more important than creating content that sells. Does your content solve a problem; address comparison questions; or illicit discovery of business solutions? Customers will gravitate toward content, read it for longer periods, and make purchases or recommend it the above concerns are covered?
Fact Check
There are a lot of services and products being sold online. Scams and misinformation are ever present now more than ever online. Before posting or uploading articles, ensure the information is accurate, vetted, and trustworthy.
Perhaps you feel the urge to post new material often, this might lead to a mistake. Frankly, writing about new topics can also be daunting at times.
Incorporate Reputable Sources in Your Content
Simply writing content without adding reputable resources is questionable. Sure, most of the words or phrases should be your own but credible sources need to be added.
They increase credibility and trustworthiness for anyone who reads the content. And people are more likely to recommend going to a website, reading your content, and purchasing your products.
Most importantly, don’t simply add random sources. Make sure the sites your reference or cite are legitimate and credible.
Use Insights from Experts
Some marketers have been in the industry for a while and by virtue, have gained knowledge and experience. A few are known as experts by burgeoning marketers or social media influencers.
Use their insights and quotes now and then in your content. As a byproduct it increases your credibility and authority and reinforces the quest for quality content.
Add Visuals to Emphasize Your Point
You have heard it before; a picture is worth a thousand words. Add pictures strategically through your content to make your content more compelling. People can process more information on bar charts in short time than reading three paragraphs.
Whether you create a photo in Adobe photoshop or use stock photos, it does not matter- simply use them.
Limit Slang
Slang has its time and place. In a blog post, minimize its use and focus on providing a solution to an existing problem. Tempting as it may be people will not appreciate using hip words excessively.
Ask a friend, colleague, or acquaintance to give you feedback on your blog if you’re uncertain about content.
Review Your
For some people writing comes to them easily. They don’t have to think about grammar, punctuation, sentence variety and the like -while others trudge through writing a one-page paper. After completing the blog(s) take some time to review your content.
Common mistakes are missed commas, run on sentences, wrong tense, and many others. Re-read your content several times to ensure that mistake free.
Your Headline Matters
Frankly speaking, we are inundated with content. How does your article stand out from other; one way is to write a catchy headline. Someone might skip or overlook a site due to headline, hopefully that is not your site. The domino effect of writing a catchy headline is increased traffic, increased engagement, and helping people find valuable content.
Differentiate Yourself
What do I mean by this? Content written about certain subjects, for example, reviews of Android phones will likely be similar. However, there is an opportunity to find some interesting facts to share. Scour the internet to see new or interesting takes people have on your services or products.
Ultimately, customers will only stay on your website if you write creatively, present old ideas a fresh way; and teach them something new.
Build suspense
Television shows have mastered the art of suspense, especially reality TV. Take for example the show “American Idol”, during the elimination they dim lights. Afterward, you will hear suspenseful music that keeps fans on the edge. One by one, contestants get eliminated until they reach a cutoff.
In a similar sense, your content should build suspense(leave them yearning for more). Focus on one aspect of product or service. Explain it thoroughly then leave the reader yearning for more.
