Every business is perpetually searching for ways to increase their conversion rates. Though, there are obstacles such as competition, changing markets, and much more.
Every challenge presents an opportunity. Below are several savvy ways to boost conversion rates.
1. Ensure your website has a goal.
Before you start building a website, you should have a business goal in mind. This is what you will gauge your business on, for example, how many bottles of shampoo you want to sell(simplistic).
From there, you will have a baseline to evaluate how well or poorly the business is doing. Without a goal, there is no way to determine if you have made progress. Set-up benchmarks to keep business from floundering.
Here’s an example of a poor goal: “Once we have the perfect design, we’ll increase engagement by 15% over the course of 4 months.” Well, what is the minimum engagement you want to start with? And how much do want to increase it month by month?
Alternatively, here are good examples of goals:
- Achieving 100 clicks on a pop-up within a week.
- Selling 50 bottles of shampoo in a day.
- Ordering 1000 Fenty bags within 2 months.
In other words, your goals should specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time bound.
2. Conduct A/B testing
To maximize resources such as man-hours, time, and money conduct A/B testing. A/B testing is a method for increasing a website’s conversion rate (turning visitors into customers). Take for example, if you have two landing pages with slightly different content.
A/B testing will direct 50% of content to page A and 50% of page B. Each page has a different call-to-action button. Ultimately, the goal is to determine which page receives more clicks or attention.
Before you launch a campaign, post your landing page or upload a pop-up and conduct A/B testing. Preferably, run 3 tests to see which marketing tactic is attracting the most attention.
Don’t spend too much time conducting tests, see which marketing methods work best based on previous experience. Then proceed to add new content after A/B and input from other parties.
3. Add a pop- up to your site!
The average conversion rate for all pop-ups is 3.09%, according to Sumo. Based on previous knowledge, a few adjustments, and data you can increase the conversion rate by 9.28% conversion rate. This conversion rate is at the top 10% of pop-ups.
Quick tips to reach the highest conversion rate:
- Make it easy to close the pop-up.
- Make sure the pop-up only opens once per user (set a cookie)
- Experiment with different offers (different products, premium content, PDFs, other free swag) One will standout as top option.
- Add a 30-second delay timer on pop-ups, this keeps them from being a nuisance (drive customers away).
The above suggestions should enable you to boost your conversations, while simultaneously reducing the nuisance factor.
4. Remove unnecessary form fields!
Believe it or not, creating forms that are engaging with minimal fields is challenging at times. We are accustomed to filling out forms online for one reason or another.
Admittedly, people will abandon filling out forms if there are too many fields. Simply put, your conversion rate will decrease due to this. Easy fix: Remove unnecessary fields from your form.
Of course, be mindful of removing too many fields in the pursuit of increased conversion rates. Yes, sign up percentage will be high, but lack of information will lead frustration from the sales team.
5. Remove distractions!
Less is more, this applies to your website. When you have too many banners, pop-ups, or ads, it can be overwhelming for customers.
Strive to keep your site simple. Add a banner towards the top for easy access. Customers should not have scroll down to see important information.
Consider adding the following:
- Benefits and features
- Testimonial or reviews
- Headline and subheadings
- Visuals w/context that show what you’re offering
There are other things to consider as it relates to visual clutter. I highly recommend using hotjar to visual parts of your site that are being ignored. Of course, which ones are getting a lot of attention.
This app has click maps, scroll tracking and other features to show you user activity on any device. Leverage this tool to improve your website by eliminating what is unnecessary to simply your site. As a result, the conversion rate will increase.
6. Add a third-party sign up service.
In the past, there was only one way to create a profile, from a website. Things have changed, alternative logins are now commonplace.
Social media platforms like Facebook and Google allow a user to login using their accounts. Add this service to arsenal if you have not, your conversion rate will benefit from it.
7. Create captivating, creative CTAs!
We are all consumers and have seen Call-To-Action buttons. Most of them urge us to submit, subscribe, download, sign-up, or purchase something. Frankly, these CTAs are generic and boring.
In the sprite of progress, take some time to think outside the box. The best call-to-action buttons are simple, but captivating.
Suggestion 1: Only one CTA per page
From my previous experience in digital marketing, adding too many CTAs
is distracting and confusing. Rather, place one CTA near the top of landing page.
8. Use strong action words
To be effective, make sure you write short and strong CTAs. The combination will ensure you stay below the character limit. Check out examples of the most common CTAs:
Summary
Boosting conversions is vital for any business. There are multitude of ways to do so, from conducting A/B testing, to adding pop-ups to your site. Removing unnecessary fields from forms will ensure customers fill out the whole form instead of abandoning the process.
Also, remove distractions from the site. Too many pop-ups or ads will create confusion and minimize chances for clicks. Customers should not have more than one way to create a profile, add a third-party sign-up service. Finally, create engaging, creative CTAs that will lead customers to click them.

This is an excellent article on ways to boost conversion rates for your website. I am always on the lookout for tips and tricks that I need to know to give me the best chances of converting my website audience. Putting yourself in your audience’s shoes or considering your experiences when visiting other websites is helpful.
For example, I can quickly grow annoyed with websites with too many popups or popups I cannot promptly exit. Sometimes, that is enough for me to leave the website altogether. I keep this in mind when considering adding popups to my websites or other forms to retain some of my audience.

I am glad you found the article to be valuable. A lot of traffic does not necessarily mean conversions, which is why I wrote the article. Promo pop-ups a great way to advertise products or services to consumers. However, use them sparingly to ensure effectiveness.
